General Information

Applications and accompanying materials must be turned in by January 23, 2017. Compose your answers to the open-ended questions in a word processing program before pasting them in the text boxes below.
If you are neither a United States citizen nor a Permanent Resident, you are required to set up an appointment with an advisor in Rice University’s Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) prior to turning in your application. OISS may be reached at 713-348-6095. Students who are not US citizens take sole responsibility for ensuring that they are in compliance with all visa and travel requirements of the US, their proposed host countries, and any other countries to which they may travel during the term of their service.

Budget

Costs for international internships generally average less than $8,000.
Possible additional expenses include: Preventative medication or immunizations/vaccinations required or recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), required visa fees charged by host country, calling card or local cell phone, Internet fees, language programs offered by your third-party service provider as part of your placement, and so forth. Please note that the PJHC will not be able to cover the following expenses: Luggage and backpacks, toiletries, optional travel, alcohol, and gifts to host family, host community, or third-party service provider staff.

References and Unofficial Transcript

Before the application deadline of January 23, 2017, please deliver to Humanities 113 a copy of your unofficial transcript, including your Fall 2016 grades, in a sealed envelope labeled with your name and “Unofficial Transcript.” If the office is closed, slide the transcript underneath the door. (The Program Administrator will confirm receipt of your unofficial transcript via an email to your Rice email address.)
